Biography

History of the group starts in year 1965, when three students of architecture: Roger Waters (guitarist), Nick Mason (Drummer) and Richard Wright (Pianist and Keyboardist), decided to play together .Beginning didn’t forecast, that this group (initially called Sigma Six) will become one of the greatest band in the history. Three friends played at the student’s parties in order to tear away from the normal and grey life. Then meeting of the trio with Syd Barett has changed the course of the history. He was great lyrics creator and guitarist and he also changed the name of the band to Pink Floyd Sound, which was later shorten to Pink Floyd. In this period, Syd was the uncontested leader of the group. Once somebody asked him what the origin of the band’s name is. He answered that, he has taken random 2 discs from the shelf. He stroke two music albums of Pink Anderson and Floyd Council. Syd connected two names of artists; result of the combination was Pink Floyd.

Drug that changed the band:

Pink Floyd at this time was on of the main midstream of the Psychedelic Rock. Everything was going very well to the time when the popularity enlarged. Then the leader of the group: Syd Barett didn’t hold out the psychology pressure and has started to take drugs. This caused, that he started neglecting his obligations. Syd Barett was removed from the band. He was man that made possible to get out from small smoky clubs to large stages. This wasn’t easy decision for the rest of the members, but necessary. Syd Barrett strong will was heavily examined. Unfortunately chemical agent, that has been bringing him amenities also destroyed entirely his life and changed the course of band history. Addiction to narcotic, which has taken control over him, is called: Lysergic acid diethylamide, briefly named LSD or commonly “acid”.

The era of David Gilmour

After removal of the Syd Barret, a new guitarist was needed. Afterwards the new member of band became David Gilmour, who was a friend of Syd from school class. In the new set, the second Pink Floyd’s studio album was recorded. Album called “A Saucerful Secrets” confirmed abilities of musicians in operating the ambience. Even the title song has something from the space music, what truly confirms this. One of the songs on the album is even composed by Syd Barrett. Unfortunately nothing good could be said about the next album created by Pink Floyd “More”. It’s probably the worse of all composed by the great band. Nonetheless it could be explained, because was made in order of movie producers. Also for the purposes of movie created was “obscured by Clouds” in year 1972 and didn’t run out higher in terms of the quality. The next, this time much more solid album was “Atom Heart Mother” which established Pink Floyd as one of the rock stars.

On the Dark Side of The Moon

The next also great albums were Meddle and Animals, but unfortunately I am unable to introduce all albums of this great band so I will only dig deep into the greatest ones. Next studio album called “Dark Side of the moon” is without a doubt one of these pearls. It’s probably the best Pink Floyd’s album and one of the greatest in the entire music history. Its great note is result of several months of exhaustive work. This amazing album is a message about the sense or the nonsense of existence. All the tracks are combined together and create a great piece of art. Each songs has different message, every tell story about a particular aspect of life: such as; time, money, breathing and death…

I wish you were here...

Huge success of Dark Side of the Moon was beyond expectations and this caused fear of musicians, that they won’t be able to create something valuable anymore. Long-awaited recording session was organized only in January 1975. Pressure caused by the triumph of the earlier album was so big, that any musician had no willingness to work. However, the result of this disability was glorious and outstanding album called “Wish you were here”. In the opinion of musicians it is the greatest record of the Pink Floyd. Lyrics are expression of loss, helplessness and emotional emptiness. Lyrics are so depressing, that many listeners felt irritated. Curiosity is that, one of the songs was sung by the man from outside the Pink Floyd – Roy Harper, friend of Gilmour. Roger Waters was at that time indisposed vocally, and Gilmour refused to sing a song in his opinion too personal.

The Wall

This was a time of conflict between Roger Waters and David Gilmour. It soon has transformed into an open war. Relation between Roger and Dave was so tense, that it was rented two recording studios that, two musicians could have worked separately. In certain moment Waters required going away of Richard Wright, in his opinion not creative. That was next symptom of his ruling obsession. From that moment Rick was playing only as a session musician, and later has quitted completely. He came back only in 1987. Despite all these argues and clashes. Album was released at the time appointed by publisher. Finally album in spite of dissimilarities was very successful. Overall amount of copies sold is estimated to over 20 millions. Lyrics are even more important in this case than music. They tell the story about a man – artist, more sensitive then others and on that account not always understandable, which was thrilled by the death of his father on the war. On the ground of „The Wall” was created also theatrical performance and the movie directed by Alan Parker with Bob Geldoff in the main role. At the last time The Wall was played after destruction of the Berlin’s wall, but this time only Roger Waters appeared with his own band, because of still existing conflict between him and the rest of the group. The last album that before their roads dispersed was “The Final Cut” created from the rejected songs from The Wall.

Resurrection of the band

Roger Waters stirred with the rest of the band and officially leaved in 1985. He had a wish to disturb coming-back of Pink Floyd, which in his opinion can’t exist without him. He was even trying to win by taking a legal action. In 1987 in spite of adversities: David Gilmour, Richard Wright and Nick Mason gathered all back together are releasing the album called „The Momentary Lapse of reason”. On the album could be found the old style of the band; however it will never bring so close to older and legendary albums. Then followed a moment of silence and finally Pink Floyd released their last album “The Division Bell” which represent a very high quality and refined material. The album achieved great success with over 12 million of sold copies and gaining a lot of awards. Mainly the very successful was also the concert called “Pulse”, which was promoting the above mentioned album. The 700 tons of equipment including light effect, lasers and audio gear was transported all over the cities, where the tour played, by the trucks and planes.
